About Us
Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA) was established in 2009 with four founding partners—ChristianaCare, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Thomas Jefferson University and the University of Delaware.
The alliance enables partner organizations to collaborate and conduct cutting-edge biomedical research, to improve the health of Delawareans through access to services in the state and region, and to educate the next generation of health care professionals.
The DHSA’s unique, broad-based partnership focuses on establishing innovative collaborations among experts in medical education and practice, health economics and policy, population sciences, public health, and biomedical sciences and engineering.
Pilot grant funding stimulates partnerships on important health issues, which in turn lead to mature research teams with fully funded programs, labs, accelerating translation and development of innovative and impactful educational programs for the next generation of health care leaders.
Joint faculty appointments between the academic and clinical institutions in the alliance allow outstanding faculty to have multiple academic homes and also facilitate development of a strong research and education engine for the alliance.
With a commitment to improve the health of those in the surrounding region, affiliate institutions throughout the state of Delaware will increase the breadth and depth of the alliance and leverage the expertise that can positively change lives through its impact on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
The alliance partner institutions have successfully collaborated in over 100 areas, with individual projects ranging from medical student and resident education, cancer and cardiovascular research, nursing and health professions practitioner training, to research infrastructure development and industrial collaboration.
